Belleville Lake Dance Center (BLDC)

FACILITY POLICIES


Facility policies are in place for the safety and enjoyment of dancers, guests, and employees. In addition, guidelines outlined in this document are listed to help you navigate the dance center at 500 E. Huron River Drive Belleville, MI 48111.  Thank you and enjoy dancing!

Registration Form, Participant Waiver, Photo Release, Facility Policy Acknowledgement

  • Forms must be completed and submitted annually prior to dancing or teaching on site.

  • Forms will be available at the front desk and on our website bellevillelakedance.com.  

  • For the children’s program, an annual $25 registration fee is required. 

  • Guests renting the facility need to complete a separate facility rental agreement.

  • Employees and guest dance teachers have an additional policies & procedures form.

Parking

  • Please park in the parking lot or adjacent side street in accordance with local ordinances.  Do not park in front of a neighbor's property or in an adjacent business lot or handicap space unless you have a permit or expressed permission to do so.

Sign-in sheet

  • A sign-in sheet is available at the reception desk in order to track attendance for all dancers and guest instructors.  

Payment

  • There will be a secure mailbox at the reception desk and envelopes for collection of payment for dance class or floor rental. 

  • Venmo, Zelle, cash, and checks made out to Belleville Lake Dance Company are acceptable forms of payment.

  • A participant must pay on the day of the dance lesson or space rental or must be enrolled in a monthly tuition program.  A pre-paid punch card or gift card may be purchased and used.

  • At this time, we do not offer any billing or invoicing service.  Tuition is due by the 1st of the month with a grace period to the 5th of the month.  On the 6th day, a $5 late fee will be added to your account.

  • The children’s dance program may send our reminders for tuition due dates and other fees, such as for costumes or competitions. 

Personal items 

  • Stow personal items in a cubby or locker temporarily during class.  Please do not store items long term unless you are an employee. 

  • There will be a designated “lost and found” area for stray items with a date of when it was found.  Please check back often. After 6 months, unclaimed items will be donated.

  • We are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items. 

No Pets

  • No pets allowed, except service animals with proper documentation. Patrons may see animals in the connected business but should not interact with them. 

Only dance shoes permitted on dance floor

  • Only dance shoes, dance socks, or clean bare feet are allowed on the wood dance floor.

  • Please store street shoes in the provided storage cubbies.

  • Please do not wear street shoes or track mud or dirt on the dance floor to prevent damage.

  • Do not leave shoes in walkways or stairs to prevent a tripping hazard.  

Floor ledge & columns in dance area

  • The elevated sprung dance floor has a ledge around the perimeter of the room.  It is marked with orange tape and/or ballet barres.  

  • There are three vertical steel columns on the first floor in the dance area.  They have a vinyl padded cover around them.

  • Please use caution when navigating these areas. 

Stairs & second floor access restricted

  • No access upstairs is permitted.  It is a storage area for employees only. 

  • No sitting or playing on the stairs.

  • No access to the balcony.  It is for decoration purposes only.  

Restrooms

  • There are three handicap accessible restrooms available for guest use.

  • One is located in the atrium area next to the observation room. 

  • The second and third are located in the rear corner of the dance floor area. 

  • A shower is available for occasional use by dancers. Guests should bring and take back their own towels, soap, and shampoo.

  • The only paper item allowed to be flushed down the toilet is toilet paper; no wet wipes or other items.

  • Please double bag diapers and other items that require more immediate disposal.

  • Please notify a staff member of a need to restock restroom supplies, such as toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, hand soap.  

Kitchen amenities

  • A water fountain and water bottle filling station is available next to the kitchen in the dance room.  Kindly wipe the floor if any spills occur. 

  • A refrigerator with a freezer is available for your food and drinks.  Please do not take the property of others. 

  • To allow space for others, please do not store large amounts of food or beverages long term.

  • In order to prevent your food from being discarded or consumed by other, name and date the item.

  • Any spoiled or rotten food may be discarded by management as deemed necessary.

  • Please do not store foods that emit strong odors.

  • Please do not leave dirty dishes in the sink.

  • A dishwasher is available for use.  Please supervise until the cycle is complete.

  • A microwave and coffee maker are available for guest use.  Clean and turn off when finished. 

  • At this time, the stove is only available for use by employees and with special permission for catered parties.  

  • No chewing gum, sucker candies, or eating while dancing to help prevent choking.

Trash

  • Dispose of your trash properly in designated bins. 

  • Recycle paper, plastics, cans, bottles but please rinse and replace caps.

  • Notify management if there is stray refuse on the floor. Gloves are available if needed. 

Common areas

  • No access to the front building space which is a different business closed off by a door.

  • A community bulletin board is available in the atrium and parent room.  Requests to post items can be submitted in writing at the reception desk for review by management.

  • No applying adhesive items, such as tape to walls, windows, or floors. 

  • No covering windows, including the parent observation room.

  • No moving furniture around, including tables and chairs, without manager permission.

  • No turning on the fireplace without permission from a facility manager.  Please make sure it is turned off before leaving.

  • No changing the setting of the thermostat. This will be done by management.

  • Television shows should be age-appropriate for the surrounding audience.

  • No keeping exterior doors open in order to maintain ambient temperature, prevent entry of wildlife and insects, and prevent music from disturbing the quiet of the neighborhood.

  • Please turn off lights, electronics (music, computers, TVs), fans at the end of the night.

  • Regarding outdoor areas, please notify a manager if there is a need such as removing landscaping debris (fallen branches, leaves) or walkway maintenance for ice and snow, which will be done on a regular basis.  Please turn off the hose after its use. 

Parental supervision

  • Siblings are allowed in waiting areas if they are well-behaved.  If they are not enrolled in a dance class, they cannot participate.  If they are disruptive to the class, they may be asked to leave with their guardian. 

  • Please do not physically discipline a child unless the child is endangering the safety of others or him/herself.  Verbal redirection of the behavior may be helpful. 

No soliciting or fundraising

  • No soliciting or selling personal items or promoting fundraisers on the premises. 

  • Sale of items by the BLDC or official BLDC fundraisers are allowed.

  • Employees and dancers may not use the Belleville Lake Dance Company name or logo on clothing or other merchandise without written approval by the owner. 

  • If you have a business card or ad flyer that you would like to be displayed on the community bulletin board, please submit a request at the front desk.

Emergency Preparedness/ building closures

  • In the event of severe weather, such as during a tornado warning, gather into a central area of the building away from windows and doors, such as in the bathrooms or kitchen. 

  • If there is a power outage, flashlights will be available in designated areas to help guests navigate to the nearest exit.

  • We will follow the school closure guidelines of the Van Buren Township/Belleville School District.  If the school district is closed, the children’s dance program is closed. 

  • Guest dance teachers may contact management in order to inquire if and when the building will reopen for afternoon or evening adult classes. 

Contagious Illness  and First Aid

  • If you are sick, please do not attend dance class for your own safety and for the safety of others.  A make-up class can be arranged with the instructor. 

  • Kindly notify management if you or your child were on site with a contagious illness so that we may take additional hygiene measures and anonymously notify others who may have been exposed while following public health guidelines.

  • Common touch areas such as door handles, dance barres, mats will be disinfected on a regular basis.

  • Do not give medications or medical advice to guests or students.  

  • A first aid kit is available in the kitchen if needed to render self-aid.  

  • A dance teacher may help a child with a minor cut or scrape by providing a band-aid or ice and will notify the parent and studio owner.  

  • In the event of severe injury or medical distress, call 9-1-1.

  • At this time, the property does not have an AED (automatic electronic defibrillator). 

  • Please notify management or the studio owner of any special considerations or medical alerts you would like us to know about in order to better assist you. 

  • We cannot guarantee no exposure to allergens will occur but will try to inform others if we are notified.

Conduct

  • We are a family-friendly facility. Please behave in a manner that you would at an elementary school by dressing appropriately and conducting oneself in a polite and respectful manner. 

  • Do not use profane language or engage in inappropriate conversations. 

  • Do not promote a political party or religious affiliation on the premises.

  • Do not display or discuss social viewpoints about controversial matters.

  • Do not speak negatively about other dancers, teachers, parents, co-workers, studios. 

Smoking/vaping and aerosols prohibited

  • No smoking, vaping, or other tobacco products allowed inside or in public entrances/exits outside. If smoking outside, dispose of butts in designated containers.

  • No aerosols or sprays in common areas, such as perfume, insect repellant, sunscreen.  The exception is for small air fresheners in bathrooms and hairspray for dancers in a well-ventilated area away from others. 

  • No malodorous foods please.

Drugs/alcohol prohibited

  • No alcoholic beverages, marijuana, or other recreational drugs allowed on the premises.

  • Prescription medications should be stowed safely with personal items to prevent access to others.  

  • Guests under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be asked to leave.

Weapons prohibited

  • No guns, knives, weapons, pepper spray allowed on the premises, even with a permit.

  • Kitchen knives or sharp scissors are not allowed in public areas for children’s safety.

Fire prevention

  • Fire extinguishers are available in designated areas. 

  • There are many fire exits with lighted placards.  In the event of a fire, leave through the nearest exit and notify the fire department and building owner. 

  • No candles, matches, lighters,  incense, fireworks, bonfires, cooking grills, flammable liquids or materials. 

  • If a curling iron, costume steamer, or other small appliance is used, adult supervision is required.  Please turn off when finished. 

No parties or overnight stays

  • No parties unless scheduled by management or the studio owner.

  • No sleeping overnight without permission from a manager, except in extenuating circumstances, such as inclement weather.
